Problem with feminism: The ‘F’ word strikes our sensibilities again
Can a woman be a bad feminist? Yeah, only if she admits it in public and is ready to be thrashed for her views and love for the color ‘pink’ (probably in 50 shades of greying pink). As long as she is sitting at home and raising kids (read future feminists (girls) or unequal men (boys) all is forgiven.
The minute she wants economic independence and work shoulder to shoulder with men, the hitch resurfaces. As the flag of feminism waves today, there seems to be a major problem.
Now it has become so regressive and stale that even new generation of women are doubting its institutional status. Its returning to the tribal era where bashing is the norm and going viral for the wrong reasons.
There cannot be gender equality. Ever.
Can this be understood at all? While the basic concept of feminism remains unchallenged and causes are just, the methods to achieve the goals seem to have ruined this movement. It is not about voting, or an actress getting a better billing on the marquee, or a woman tennis player being awarded bigger prize money for her sporting talent. The movement has gone beyond the patriarchal realm, it is now spilling on social media and creating major confusion.
Virtually, we are dealing with complex brains and ideologies of individual people. The measurement of social justice is skewed and therein lies the problem. Should we say farewell to feminizing as it gets more complex?
Or should we try to understand how it is shaping relationships? Why are men being ruined in the name of ‘feminism?’
How social media is reshaping relationships
In the wake of the #me too movement, social media has created several waves that crash on the shores of our minds. It is affecting men (more) and women. Some viral threads have indeed reimagined our perceptions of relationships. Radical thinking is forcing away the original causes of the rise of the feminism movement.
The theme on ‘men bashing’ is constant making alternate case of a lost cause! The real trouble is the huge rift and a distinct divide between feminists. The radicals are ruining the movement and an aggressive approach is straining relationships even between women themselves.
The current generation of women are not oppressed as their ancient or medieval counterparts. Then why this aggression? Why this forceful method to achieve goals? Why are all men bearing the brunt?
Is feminism is ruining men
The dating world is morphing. Men are hesitant to be chivalrous. They are being misunderstood by the militant mentally of the opposite sex. In fact, the barriers between good manners and complimenting gestures are misjudged.
Men feel that a bunch of feminists are ruining the hall of good manners by their behavior. It also does not have to do anything with the equal pay or gender equality. Men refuse to be kind anymore. They don’t know where it will hit them- below or above the belt!
When a feminist raises sons!
Imagine what it must be like for a feminist to raise sons? what could she teach them about gender equality with the mindset she possesses? She may feel it would be so much better to raise a badass girl with her point of view. There is a quote by Gloria Steinem, “I’m glad we’ve begun to raise our daughters more like our sons, but it will never work until we raise our sons more like our daughters.”
Would a feminist raise a feminist boy?
Today, boys are neglected. No one pays attention if they drop out of school. Skills that include kindness, politeness and ‘not crying’ are considered so blasé…in this modern era.
Will men be always men!
It is in their ‘DNA’, don’t expect them to conform to any aggressive feminist crap dominating the environment. But guess what, the stakes are higher. A different bread of women is raising gentlemen who are respectful. It is a struggle for them to be boys.
No matter what there is equal strength in a man being vulnerable. Sure, this would make the world a better place to live in.
